Calcium Carbonate

Calcium carbonate comprises more than 4% of the earth’s crust as one of the most abundant raw materials in the world. The production of industrial products by crushing natural deposits is named as “ground calcium carbonate” or “GCC”. Fineton’s CC-series is produced from prime natural marble (one of the natural forms of calcium carbonate) in Vietnam, which is an ideal and low-cost filler for a wide range of applications including plant and coating, plastics, rubber, paper, ink and construction industries.

Paint & Coatings

In coating application, calcium carbonate primarily serves as a performance enhancer and our CC-series provides the following functions/advantages:

  • The most economical filler in the market
  • Exceptionally high brightness (>97)
  • Good weatherability other than acidic environment
  • Good dispersibility and wettability in both water and solvent systems by standard wetting and dispersing agents
  • Low viscosity even at high filler/pigment loading
  • Low vehicle demand and exceptional resistance to frosting
  • Low oil absorption resulting in lower binder consumption and higher possible filler loadingž

Plastic

In plastic application, calcium carbonate primarily serves as a functional filler and our CC-series provides the following functions/advantages:

  • The most economical filler in the market
  • Exceptionally high brightness (>97)
  • Stable and precise particle size distribution (PSD) compatible with a wide range of polymer resins
  • Engineered PSD of CC-5XC with maximum 2-10 μm particles to enhance the anti-blocking performance of plastic film
  • Surface treated CC enhances fluidity, and reduces oil absorption to further increase filler loading
  • Surface treated CC allows better association with resin and enhance chemical bonding, which leads to a better dispersibility in resin system

Breathable Film

Besides the general application in plastic industry, calcium carbonate also serves in specific sections including the production of breathable film and non-woven fibric. Our CC-8C is specially designed for breathable film production and provides the following functions/advantages:

  • Engineered PSD (narrow and concentrated) for pore creation of breathable layer resulting in high water vapor transmission rate
  • Enhances dispersibility and a homogenous pore structure in breathable films
  • High thermal stability for ease of processing and low defect rates
  • Improves tear resistance and impact strength
  • Surface-treatment offers exceptional hydrophobicity
  • High brightness for a good color and low yellowness
  • Improves opacity for plastic films which reduces the usage of expensive opacifier (e.g. TiO2)

Non-Woven Fabric

In non-woven fabric application, our CC-5XC provides the following functions/advantages:

  • Engineered particle size distribution to minimize coarse particle content to almost zero avoiding weakening of fibric
  • Majority of fine particle is also removed as it tends to agglomerate to form coarse particle to weaken the structure
  • Enhances dispersibility and ease of processing
  • Reduces roughness to increase softness to the fabric
  • Enhances filtration performance for meltblown fabrics
  • Improves tensile strength and elongation of fabrics
  • High brightness for a good color and low yellowness
  • Improves opacity for plastic films which reduces the usage of expensive opacifier (e.g. TiO2)
  • Reduces the required amount of resin used without adverse effect on performance to reduce carbon footprint and production cost
